Interesting Records of Twenty-Eleven
Jack Conte - VS4
Highly creative and diverse. Part of what brings merit to this album is Conte’s ability to present a more melancholy and less-straightforward set of songs while not boring the listener with drawn out and frail tracks. Each section is constantly layered with the flow of an array of instruments that give the songs a sonically rich atmosphere. The success also lies in the fact...

Karl smiling like an orange headed little boy- gets me every time. Though he’s been complaining a whole bunch more on this second series.

Mastodon - The Hunter
My introduction to Mastodon was relatively recent. Since then I thought they were good, but their style was simply a kind that never quite caught my attention as being close enough to something I’d really enjoy. Perhaps because their sound is very loose, or perhaps because it also carries an almost fuzzy characteristic. I mean don’t get me wrong, they sound really big, but on the flip...

Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events
Guitarist John Petrucci described the aim of A Dramatic Turn Of Events saying,
We wanted to do something that was going to be on a grand scale, we wanted to take things to extremes and really explore deeply whatever element it was. We knew if we were going to do something in a progressive sort of tone, we would take that to an extreme…. We wanted this album to be sonically interesting.
And I...

Ha! I live in Croatia. Though I bet they put that line in since they filmed in Trogir for last year’s series, for the -disappointingly not so great- episode “Vampires in Venice”. Though some scenes from the shoot, there, also appeared in “Vincent and the Doctor”, which I thought was a pretty good one.

A Scanner Darkly
Substance D —otherwise known as Death— is the most dangerous drug ever to find its way on to the black market. It destroys the links between the brain’s two hemispheres, leading first to disorientation and then to complete and irreversible brain damage. Bob Arctor, undercover narcotics agent, is trying to find a lead to the source of supply, but to pass as an addict he must become a...

Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
Been waiting for this ever since I heard Dave announce, “I think this could be our heaviest album yet.” back in March of 2010! And it’s felt like a while, but no worries, it’s been worth it. After all, a record isn’t inspired, conceived, rehearsed, recorded, produced, mixed, mastered, published and all the other things done in between, simply over night. Which is of...

Emery - We Do What We Want
Their latest full-length release since 2009. I’ve got to say that I was hoping for this album to take a heavier route while still retaining alot of the intricacies of the last album and perhaps their 2005 release as well. Not necessarily following the exact arrangements, but at least keeping a similar feel. Regrettably it hasn’t quite come across as a very well-rounded record. I also...

Blue’s Clues is fun! Not to mention that chilled out jazzy music. Steve was the man, forget Joe in the later episodes. Check out this funny expression he does in this one, “Oh…”!

Four Good Albums in 2010
Didn’t find a whole lot of new albums in 2010, at least ones I liked and listened to more than once. So here are four records that came out it twenty-ten, that I really enjoyed listening to.
Deftones | Diamond Eyes
This colossal album so eloquently incorporates elements from previous albums, while not losing, in the slightest, sight of new material. From heavy, gritty guitar...
